Dueling Club Tournament
Red Tier Final Match

Slytherin Prefect Sariss Ravon took on fellow prefect Janus Sparhawk of Gryffindor in the Dueling Club’s annual dueling tournament, held at Hogwarts. The final red tier match, usually the most impressive as it brings forth the most experienced duelers, did not disappoint this year.

Miss Ravon gained the upper hand in this spectacular duel by securing first blood. Her attack, a Silencing Charm was blocked by Sparhawk who used a Take Cover Charm. Not often used, this advanced charm absorbs more powerful spells. Sparhawk, known in the chamber for his arsenal of spells, countered Ravon’s attack with his own Silencing Charm. Using the same strategy that Sparhawk had moments before demonstrated, Ravon blocked the Silencing Charm with the Take Cover Charm.

For her second attack of the match, Ravon attacked again with the Silencing Charm which unlike the previously cast spell, connected with its target. Taking the hit, Sparhawk was unable to speak and could not easily cast any spells. Using this to her advantage, Ravon applied a Concentration Charm to herself.

At this point, one could surmise that Ravon had the upper hand as she cast another attack; this time using a Strength-Stealer Spell. All hope was not lost for Sparhawk as he was able to conjure his Take Cover Charm, and block the offending spell. Not quite as lucky during the next attack, Sparhawk was hit with Ravon’s powerful Sparkler Spell.

Ravon obviously a skilled dueler, used several different tactics and techniques in her duel, and was the one who was victorious in the end. Having exhausted himself, Sparhawk attempted to  disarm Ravon and secure a win.  Ravon blocked and finished Sparhawk off with a Bat Bogey Hex. Sparhawk put up a brilliant fight and this magnificent duel is a prime example of the strategy these two and numerous others learn in the chamber.

Following the final match, trophies were awarded; Sariss Ravon taking first place, Janus Sparhawk taking second. Third place went to Ravenclaw Prefect Monica Moctezuma. Also awarded were trophies for the top three duelers in both the green and blue tiers. Kalina Match of Hufflepuff secured the first place trophy for the green tier, and Ravenclaws Caitlyn Wagers and Aurora Braelin claimed second and third respectively. Ravenclaw claimed its final trophy when third year student Orion Hakuaoiryu took first place on the blue tier. Slytherin’s Mekare Night followed Orion with a second place win and Iona June, also of Slytherin took third.
